Peaks & Valleys | August 2019

Hi friends! What is up?!? It feels like it’s been FOREVER since we’ve been together! I know it’s only been a week, but I think with the long holiday weekend, it feels like it’s been way longer. How was everyone’s Labor Day weekend? Mine was great! Had tons of fun, but also some much needed relaxation time.

I can’t believe August is already over, and I’m writing my fourth installment of my “Peaks and Valleys” series. Time is flying!!! I always love doing these posts. It’s my form of keeping a journal of my life. I never was a kid that kept a journal or diary growing up. I tried a bunch but I would get tired of writing and would stop. But now since I’ve started this series, I really see the positive effects writing down your thoughts and feelings can have on you! You’re all probably like, “Duh Katelyn! Why do you think so many people recommend doing this for your mental health!?!” I know, I know. I get it now!

If you read my July Peaks and Valleys you know that it was a rough month, but that there was so much to look forward to in August. And there was! It was such an exciting month. Exciting, but also busy, busy, busy! There were so many fun events! After the rough month of July, I needed some fun! From White Linen Night to Red Dress Run, from the Thoth Summer Dance to Running of the Bulls, we literally had a different event every Saturday in August. These were all peaks for me! I got to let loose, dress up for the themed occasions, dance, have some cocktails, and spend lots of time with my friends. But, as you could imagine, those peaks were bound to become a valley.

For most of August, I was drained – mentally and physically. With all of these events, on top of starting the new school year, I was EXHAUSTED! This was such a huge valley for me during August. I just felt weird all the time. I was happy when I was doing social outings, but when I was at work during the day, working on my blog, or trying to relax at home, I felt overwhelmed, delirious, and just straight up tired. It’s sad to say but I’m getting older. My body can’t bounce back like it used to, and I can’t do everything that I want to. This is something I’m slowly starting to accept that I can’t do it all anymore. And a bonus valley from this exhaustion is that I fell off my health and fitness lifestyle big time! I typically eat 70% healthy and 30% YOLO and workout at least four times a week. Well that didn’t happen even half of the month. I didn’t feel like cooking so we would pick up food a lot, and I never had the energy to work out. I maybe worked out 8 times the entire month of August. On top of the eating bad constantly, my body is now out of whack! But that’s all about to change! I’ve got goals and you better believe I’m going to crush them!

I ended August with a peak that just makes my heart happy! It’s my favorite time of the year – LSU football is back! LSU football is something Ryan and I look forward to all year long. It’s like Christmas every weekend in the fall! We love it! And, we get to visit the place where we met almost every weekend. It was the perfect way to enjoy the last day of August – tailgating all day with friends and celebrating a Tigers win! And it kicks off the best time of year!

This time of year is my favorite, and it always starts with September! There is so much to look forward to! And that’s how each of you should start a new month. Be optimistic, set new goals, count your blessings, and make a list of all of the great things you’re looking forward to. I can’t wait to share all of the good that’s coming this month and the rest of the year! I hope you all have a great September!

What are you looking forward to in September? Let me know! I’d love to hear your plans!
