Happy Thursday you guys! I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately on my makeup products – I’ve been going for that soft glam look that’s natural and light, but also gives me a little something extra each day. Here’s a full list of my everyday makeup routine, which is what I normally wear to work, with the products I use and the order I use them. It’s a long one so you might want to grab a snack. Ha!
A FEW THINGS BEFORE YOU READ
- I’m not a makeup artist. I’ve worn makeup since about the 6th grade, but it wasn’t until junior year of college when I discovered Jaclyn Hill and fell in LOVE with makeup. Most makeup techniques and products I’ve learned are either from her, or my friend Emma who is a makeup artist. But I am in no way a professional. I do my routine in my order, my way. So don’t judge that I apply my setting spray before my mascara, or that I use my finger to apply eyeshadow. I would say I break makeup rules, but that’s the fun part about makeup, there are no rules!
- I’m a bad influence. I’m typically a very frugal person. I use coupons when I’m grocery shopping, I research a restaurant before I eat there to figure out what I should order to fit in my budget, but for some reason when it comes to makeup and skincare products all of that logical thinking is out the window. I will try to convince you that you need a $54 primer so I apologize in advance! But I truly love these products because they last so long and are some of the best performing products on the market. Don’t you want the best? I told you I’m a bad influence. Don’t listen to me! LOL
- I love applying makeup. Some of you may read this post and think, “This is a lot of steps for an everyday routine.” Some of you may think, “That’s all you do?” If you like to keep it simple and just do tinted moisturizer and mascara, you go girl! If you like to beat your face and do full glam everyday with false eyelashes, power to ya! Everyone is different! Beauty products are for you to enjoy so do your makeup your way.
PRIMER | Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
I cannot start my makeup routine without putting on a primer first. I’ve tested a bunch of different primers over the years trying to find the best one for my skin and this has become my holy grail! The Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer has a silky texture, but not greasy as it’s oil-free. It creates a smooth canvas for my makeup by reducing the look of my pores, wrinkles, and skin redness. It even gives my skin a nice glow before I apply my foundation. It is a tad pricey, but a little goes a long way! I typically use 1-2 pumps and rub and press it into my skin.
FOUNDATION | It Cosmetics CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte
Since I have acne prone skin, I try to keep my everyday foundation light. I recently discovered the It Cosmetics CC Cream, and let me just say WOW! It delivers seven benefits, all in one! Full-coverage matte foundation, SPF 40 sunscreen, brightening color corrector, hydrating anti-aging serum, poreless finish primer, dark spot concealer AND moisturizing day cream. I use 2 pumps of the shade “fair” and apply it with either my hands or a foundation brush. After that I take a damp beauty sponge to lightly blend it into my skin more to give it that airbrush look.
CONCEALER | Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer
There is seriously nothing else like Tarte Shape Tape! The full coverage formula conceals my dark circles and imperfections, yet is super creamy and blendable to brighten and smooth without flaking or creasing on my skin. Once you try Shape Tape, you’ll never find another concealer that works as well. With the concealer wand, I draw strokes, using the shade “light sand,” under my eye to make a triangle. I also draw a line down the bridge of my nose, my chin, and on my forehead. I then take a damp beauty sponge to blend it out.
SETTING POWDER | Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Since I have oily skin, I always have to set my foundation with powder. And not just any powder, THE powder. I’ve tried a few other setting powders, but I always seem to come back to this one. The finish is smooth, matte, and easy to apply. It keeps my makeup in place all day and my face is shine-free! I dip my damp beauty sponge into the powder and press into my skin, all over my face. I use a heavy hand when setting my under eye concealer, often leaving the powder under my eyes and on my nose to bake for about 10 minutes to make sure my makeup isn’t going anywhere during the day. Once the baking is done, I take a tapered brush and wipe off the excess powder.
BRONZER | Benefit Hoola Bronzer
This is my go-to bronzer for bronzing and contouring my face for over five years now. I literally will not buy anything else! This is the perfect matte bronzer for a natural, sunkissed glow. I’ll take a big, fluffy brush and dust it on my cheeks and forehead to warm up my fair complexion. Then, I will take the brush it comes with, which is really convenient, to contour my cheekbones, my nose, and around my forehead to give it more definition.
BLUSH | Tarte Amazonian Clay 12- Hour Blush
Blush is my #1 favorite makeup product! Let me tell you, when I put blush on, I PUT blush on! A ton. In my opinion, you can never have too much. I love the Tarte blushes because there is an array of shades, they blend in very easily with a ton of pigment, and stay put ALL day. I use the shade “Paaarty,” and it’s the perfect pinky nude for all seasons. If you don’t want to seasonally change up your makeup, try this one out. With a blush brush, I apply this to the apples of my cheeks (while smirking) and blend it up into my bronzer.
HIGHLIGHTER | Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter
I would say Becca’s best product is their highlighters. They are super creamy and have a buttery texture that melts right into the skin to give you a natural radiant glow. It never looks glittery. I like to use the shade “Moonstone” as it works for me being more fair. It has the perfect combination of white and gold undertones and is a little lighter than other highlights I’ve used. With oily skin, I have to be very careful where I apply highlighter so I don’t look shiny in the wrong places. I dust the highlighter on my cheekbones and cupid’s bow to give me a soft, glowing look right where I want.
EYESHADOW | Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette
Tarte makes some of my fave eyeshadow palettes. Just like their blushes, the shadows are super pigmented. This palette has 12 warm-toned matte and shimmer shades that are great for everyday *basic* looks. With lid, crease, and liner shades that are all made to blend together, any look you’re going for is easy to achieve. I’ll start out my everyday look by applying a combination of “Flower Child” and “Smarty Pants” all over my crease, taking it higher up toward my brow bone. Then, I use “Rebel” strictly in the crease to deepen the look. I can’t stress enough to blend, blend, and blend! If you think you’ve blended enough, blend some more! You don’t want any harsh lines. I then use my finger to apply “Funny Girl” all over my lid to give it a pop of shimmer. Lastly, I take a definer brush and use a combination of “Smokeshow” and “Activist” as eyeliner under the eye. I ever so slightly tap this as closely to my lash line, which helps my eyes look bigger and more awake.
EYEBROW GEL | Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel
Your makeup just isn’t complete without doing your eyebrows, but I don’t have time in the morning to meticulously fill them in. That’s why I love the Benefit eyebrow gel! With just a few quick strokes, I have natural-looking brow volume, while filling them in and shaping my brows. And it lasts all day! I have the shade “3-neutral light brown.” Using the tapered brush applicator, I start the strokes at the front of my eyebrow, brushing up and then out toward the ends. This creates lots of volume on my thin brows.
LIP LINER | Kylie Cosmetics Koko K Lip Liner
The older I get the more and more I love lip liner for helping draw out my lips. Also, my eczema sometimes spreads to my lips, and I can get red patches that extend past my lips so lip liner helps me draw my lips where I want them to be. The Kylie Jenner lip liners are, in my opinion, the best product she makes! They are super creamy and glide on my lips effortlessly. I typically will over line my lips ever so slightly, with keeping my natural lip shape.
LIQUID LIPSTICK | Kylie Cosmetics Koko K Matte Liquid Lipstick
They don’t call Kylie Jenner the lipstick queen for nothing! Her liquid lipsticks provide bold color instantly, her mattes literally last all day. She also has the largest amount of shades than any other makeup brand. Koko K is the perfect light pink for summer time. If I want a more creamy liquid lipstick then I use the Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint. When I apply lipstick, I fill in my top lip first, rub my lips together, and then fill in the bottom and any gaps I may have.
LIP GLOSS | Morphe Lip Gloss
Even if I have on a dry liquid lipstick or a moisturizing lipstick, I like a little lip gloss to add some shimmer and shine to my lips. I have the Morphe Lip Gloss in “Frose,” and I can’t wait to try some of their other shades. Did I mention it’s only $8?! I don’t like a lot of gloss that is super sticky so I typically put 3-4 dots of gloss on my top and bottom lips and rub them together to soften a liquid lip.
SETTING SPRAY | Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Setting Spray
I cannot live without setting spray. That sounds dramatic, but I don’t care LOL! If I don’t set my makeup with a setting spray I feel like my makeup is just going to melt right off of my face throughout the day. Urban Decay has the best setting sprays that feel weightless on the skin. The All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray keeps my makeup in place for up to 12 hours without melting, fading or settling into my fine lines. This is my second to last step in my makeup routine. I’ll spray it about six times going around my face, then I use a little fan to dry it faster.
MASCARA | It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara & L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara
I’m very fortunate that I have naturally long eyelashes so I can basically use any mascara and it gets the job done. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have my favorites, and one is actually a drugstore brand. The It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara is really black and gives my lashes super length and volume. The L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara is a dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and is only $10. It makes my lashes full and thick but never clumpy. I love using them together to give my lashes a bold, dramatic look.
I hope you enjoyed this post and were able to learn some makeup tips and about the products I use. Let me know if you pick up any of these products at Sephora or Ulta! I’d love to hear from you!
